Overview
How might a parent make gaming decisions for their children?
The pandemic has greatly affected the surge of gaming traffic, as many children developed unhealthy screen habits during the quarantine period.
GameSmart is an app that recommends appropriate games for children based on their skillset, which is measured by an assessment test in the initialization process. Based on different categories of learning, GameSmart’s algorithm would suggest games for the parent to download. As the child progress through the games, the parent is able to observe the child’s skill improvements through the app’s analytics system.

Feature 01
The time-based quiz measures a child’s problem solving, knowledge, multi-tasking, motor, and creativity skills, which allows GameSmart to recommend child-specific games.

Feature 02
After GameSmart understood the child’s skillsets, it would recommend game apps in the explore page. Parents can also save preferable games into collections for future reference.

Design System
Initial Research
As research, we first brainstormed the types of games that children would likely encounter by age-group. Next, we looked at the user’s needs, and the different values that prompt the stakeholders to maintain the system.

User Flow
Our team mapped out the user flow of the application, considering the steps users would take to fulfill the goal of making better gaming decisions for children.

Wireframes
According to the user flow created previously, our team designed wireframes to determine the navigation process in detail.

Takeaways
The challenge of this project is to translate simple flow charts and wireframes into fully designed screens. Through a collaborative setting, our team discussed the importance of clean and simple design, and worked together to establish intuitive user interactions. Overall, I enjoyed the process of organizing the design system, and applying it throughout the flow of the app.
